Heading to college--a critical transition between high school and independent adulthood--is an exciting time. In this short, video-based course, join College Prep Counseling founder Beth Pickett for an introduction to college life and the small and large adaptations that will help you confidently make the transition to campus life, alleviate anxiety about the unknown, and pave the way for a strong start as a first-year college student.
The course will cover:
-- why you should attend orientation
-- recommendations for things to do early on so you feel settled in
-- how college class schedules and studying differ from what the student is used to in high school
-- how the academics are different in college vs. high school
-- best practices for picking classes and professors
-- steps to take if you feel like you're struggling with academics
-- how to use the campus support centers
-- time management recommendations so you don't fall behind
-- insights on sharing space with a roommate and living in campus housing
For students in this course, we promise that if you watch the videos and do the exercises, you will:
-- know what to expect when you first land on campus
-- have a to-do list of small tasks to accomplish early on that will smooth the transition into life on campus
-- understand how the year may unfold and be prepared for the predictable ups and downs of freshman year
